Police prepares for parliament
Expect heavy police presence at the Parliament as the first session of the new year gets underway in a politically charged atmosphere.
The Ministry of Police and Prisons said they were ready for their usual task of maintaining law and order and ensuring there would be no act of lawlessness.
Police Commissioner Auapa'au Logoitino Filipo told Samoa Observer that they met with the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly to discuss the Parliament's agenda for Tuesday.
He said they will confirm how many police officers will be present at the Malae o Ti'afau to make sure everything goes smoothly on the first day of Parliament.
Auapa'au said he hopes for peace during the Parliament session on Tuesday and that no one will conduct any lawless acts during the commencement of the Fono.
"We are preparing for the Parliament session tomorrow (Tuesday), and our role is to maintain law and order, and we would like to warn members of the public that we will not tolerate any lawlessness," Auapa'au said.
He said if anyone is found breaking the law at any time during the Parliament session on Tuesday, the police will act accordingly.
"So this is a warning to anyone thinking of breaking the law or conducting any act of lawlessness, we will not tolerate it and we will act accordingly to arrest that person," he said.
The police are expecting a lot of interested people to crowd outside the parliament as many will come to support their elected representative after the fallout among the members of the ruling FAST Party.
There will be police presence on the roads as well.
Auapaau urges everyone to stay within the law and maintain peace and harmony.
