Green flags of Pakistan and other designs have been painted around outdoor ornaments in Fagalii. The village is in high spirits as they prepare for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting next month.

Village mayor Naea Moeauga Ulaulā said it has been a great pleasure to prepare. The village is hopeful that they will get a chance to host the Pakistani participants for the big event.

"We are using everything we can access in our surroundings for our preparations. The only stuff that we used our money for is to get these tyres and of course the Pakistan flags," he said.

"It is quite exciting and it's good to have our village come together and work to decorate our front yards. We have the women, children, chiefs, and untitled men working together for this.

"And yes, we will welcome anyone with open arms if the Government decides that the Pakistan participants can visit our village for a day or even for a few minutes. We are happy to host them."

On Tuesday, Fagalii chiefs and untitled men were getting sand from their beach to cover their front yards, and the tyres had already been placed on the roadside. They have been coloured in green and white just like the colours of the Pakistan flag.

"There is still more preparation. The goal is to finish everything before our guests arrive on our shores. An estimated $10,000 has been spent on our preparations. Our village is very big. Others are decorating the other side where the airport is located."

With the whole village on board with preparations, Naea is confident they will be done before the C.H.O.G.M commences. They are helping out with whatever they can give. It is either money or food for the people doing the work. Families in the village provide food to feed the men working in the hot sun.

Different villages across the nation have been given countries to host. Most villages are going out of their way and to great lengths to decorate their villages.

While it is not part of the CHOGM roster for countries to visit host villages, most are hoping that this could be allowed for nations to appreciate the hard work done by the people of Samoa to make the international event a successful one.
