The Minister of Works, Transport and Infrastructure Olo Fiti Vaai has called on the nation to prioritise safety in the workplace following the accident that claimed the life of an Electric Power Corporation employee.

"Vaeve'a was serving the government through the Electric Power Corporation for 23 years. It is really hard to forget a committed employee, a leader who has been serving his country with honoor but also his relationship amongst his team. But it is not in our control it is God's will," he said.

"I, as the Minister, on behalf of the EPC management and committee, send our condolences and sympathy to the wife and children who are in mourning especially to his family and friends due to the unexpected passing of Vaeve'a La'ila'i Faumui. Let us all pray for our brother and a son so that he could find his resting place in heaven."

He hopes that the incident will act as a wake-up call for everyone to prioritise their safety and stay alert when going out for operations.

Leader of the Opposition, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi also sent his heartfelt condolences to the wife, kids, family, and friends of the late Vaeve'a La'ila'i Faumuina during his press conference on Thursday.

EPC is investigating to find out what went wrong when the linesman was working on an electric pole.

The family of Vaeve'a have said they too have not been told what went wrong and are waiting for closure.
