Upgrade work at the Apia Town Clock has been completed with the old antenna being replaced and the time is now accurate with the connection of the clock GPS.

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Labour (M.C.I.L.) confirmed the successful completion of maintenance works that were carried out from 29 July to 31 July.

The Ministry contracted the qualified services of Timothy Tracey of Tower Clock Services Australia. He was the only person capable of maintaining and servicing the significant government asset.

The Town Clock Tower is a prominent historical landmark and functional timepiece for the community. It underwent several maintenance tasks to ensure its continued reliable operation.

In a press statement, M.C.I.L. said the upgrade process included replacing the old antenna with a new one, meticulously adjusting the clock hands to reflect the precise time, conducting a thorough inspection and assessment of the clock’s intricate mechanisms, and the connecting of the clock’s GPS for enhanced accuracy.

Furthermore, Mr. Tracey provided on-site basic training for the Metrology team at M.C.I.L. These efforts were essential for maintaining the accuracy and functionality of the clock, ensuring that it continues to serve the community effectively.

The Chief Executive Officer, Pulotu Lyndon Chu Ling expressed his sincere gratitude to Mr. Tracey for his expertise and continuous dedication to this work.

He added it underscores the Ministry’s commitment to preserving Samoa’s cultural heritage and ensuring the reliability of its public amenities, thereby contributing to the well-being and cultural preservation of Samoa’s residents.
