Lepa and Lotofaga District took home $3,000, a trophy and certificate from the the float competition for World Teachers Day last week.

The Principal of Lepa and Lotofaga College, Tiatai Salefao, said their float was different from all the other floats on the day.

“When we discussed what we were going to display for our float, one of the teachers came up with the idea of an octopus,” she said.

“Everyone laughed at the idea and asked how an octopus relates to the teachers.

Tiatai said an octopus showed how the Ministry and M.E.S.C. worked together to support the teachers.

“We have M.E.S.C. and the Ministry has 12 divisions and they focus on teachers.

“All those 12 divisions support us teachers, we are the employee of M.E.S.C. and we are backed by the Ministry.

“All those divisions empower us to teach, so the octopus represents M.E.S.C. and its eight tentacles represent its divisions.”

He added without the M.E.S.C the teachers wouldn’t know what to teach the children.

“We need the ministry to back us up and without us the children will not succeed in life.”

She went on to say that it was not an easy task.

“It took us two weeks to actually put the idea into action,” she said.

“It was hard work that really paid off at the end.

“This money will help with the development of the school as well as some other things in school.”

She also acknowledged the support of M.E.S.C. as well as Business System Limited and S.S.A.B. for the prizes.
