The Afolau Biomass Gasification Power Plant was a landmark renewable energy initiative undertaken during my tenure as General Manager of the Samoa Trust Estates Corporation (STEC) from 2011 until 6 February 2023. I write this response in light of the article published by the Samoa Observer on 13 March 2024, and the statements made by the Honourable Minister for Natural Resources and Environment in Parliament during the discussion of the MNRE Annual Report and Infrastructure Sector Committee Report. These comments, widely circulated on social and mainstream media, have also been cited by international renewable energy stakeholders. In light of these developments, I believe it is necessary to respectfully clarify key facts and correct public misunderstandings.
