Samoa Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo has extended his gratitude to the media, the Office of the Electoral Commission (OEC), and members of the Samoa Police, Prisons and Corrections Services (SPPCS) for their collective efforts in ensuring a safe, secure, and transparent general election this year.

In an interview with the Samoa Observer, Auapaau highlighted the importance of the media in keeping the public informed during both the pre-polling and main polling periods. He acknowledged there were a few misunderstandings at some polling stations, but said this did not diminish the critical role the media played in ensuring that the public had access to accurate and timely information.

“Despite some misunderstandings at certain polling stations, we are deeply grateful to the media for their dedication in ensuring our people were well-informed throughout the election process,” said Commissioner Auapaau. “Their service is vital to transparency and public trust in our democracy.”

The Commissioner also praised the OEC for its professionalism and commitment in organizing and managing the election. He noted that the seamless execution of polling across the country demonstrated the office’s efficiency and dedication.

“I want to commend the Office of the Electoral Commission for their tireless efforts in managing a smooth and credible election,” he said. “Their professionalism and commitment have been instrumental in upholding the integrity of this democratic process.”

Auapaau further expressed appreciation for the SPPCS officers who were deployed across the country during both pre-polling and the main election day. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by officers who worked long hours to maintain peace and ensure that voters could cast their ballots in a safe environment.

“To all members of the Samoa Police, Prisons and Corrections Services, I extend my heartfelt thanks,” Auapaau said. “Your dedication, discipline, and service ensured the safety and security of our people during this important time for our nation.”

He said the cooperation between the police, the OEC, and the media is a testament to how institutions can work together to strengthen Samoa’s democratic process. “When we work together, we build trust and confidence in our systems and that is something we should all be proud of,” the Commissioner added.
