Two election official won't be paid: OEC
The Electoral Officer for A'ana Alofi No.2 and also the Assistant Electoral Officer will not get allowances after deciding to allow 20 elderly citizens to pre-poll without registration.
Electoral Commissioner, Tuiafelolo John Stanley, during a short media conference on Friday night, revealed that this has happened and it's the official's fault.
"I can say that that is true and the officials will not get their allowances for making a wrong decision by allowing these elderly to pre-poll," Tuiafelolo said.
Tuiafelolo said the OEC considered these 20 pre-polling votes valid because they are confirmed elderly citizens.
He said these elderly citizens did not register for pre-polling.
Tuiafelolo said all officials were briefed and trained not only for pre-polling but also for being officials for the general election.
When asked if there were polling booths that had delayed closing times due to opening late for voting and he said that's the decision of the electoral officials at those polling booths.
One polling booth at Falealili No. 1 opened late on Friday morning due to some circumstances faced by the officials at the site.
