Fa'atuatua I le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) Party chairman Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt was emotional during a live broadcast on the FAST Party’s official Facebook page as he thanked his constituency, Gagaifomauga 3, for their support and said that voters had made their choice.

“Thank you for the respect,” he said, his voice breaking. He said he was especially moved by the fact that his constituency “did not doubt him.”

He extended his acknowledgements to all competing political parties, including the Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP) leader Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, the Samoa Uniting Party (SUP) party leader Fiame Naomi Mataafa, the Samoa Labour Party, and other smaller parties, following the release of provisional election results.

“Tonight’s result is a provision, and the final count is coming up next week, but there is at least a clear choice shown by the voters tonight,” Laaulialemalietoa said. “It is up to us now, the political leaders of our people, to put the effort together to restore harmony and peace in our society and community and focus on building and developing our beloved paradise, Samoa.”

Looking ahead, Laaulialemalietoa said he is eager to begin preparations for the country’s future, with the support of Samoa’s neighbours, development partners, and international friends.

“The Samoan people have spoken and expressed their choice in our political leaders and party to lead our beautiful country for the next five years,” Laaulialemalietoa said.

He also acknowledged the foundational role of Christianity in Samoan society, emphasising that the people made their choice.

"I must congratulate the FAST candidates who have won their seats. With your courage, belief, and determination, we have shared the course during our roadshow, during our campaign,” he said.

Laaulialemalietoa acknowledged those who travelled to Samoa from overseas to vote in the election.

“That collectively has put us where we are today,” he said.
