Between the Lines
MONEY
No word yet on where the $5 million for the independence celebrations will be coming from. No allocations were announced in the national budget. District councils are already stretched.
UNSAFE
While it may be argued that sending children as young as five years old is a common practice but having them walk unsupervised along busy roads where there are no footpaths is unsafe.
SELECTIVE
Diplomacy within the region should not be selective. If the leaders can be present for a funeral of a former regional neighbour next door, they can also be present at another funeral.
BUS BEER
Drinking in buses continues. This happens in buses bound for rural areas on pay day and at the weekend. The buses also make stops at shops for passengers to buy their alcohol. Are drivers staying sober?
LAWS
Some political pundits are saying that an anti-corruption law and agency during this term will not happen. Do they know something that others do not?
DELAYED
The second school term is set to start. Many schools are struggling as the grant from the education ministry is yet to be distributed. Many principals are wondering why is there a delay when usually this money was given at the beginning of the school year.
