A local business in Moataa village has stepped forward and donated brand new uniforms to the Moataa Sports Club for its soccer team.

Popularly known for its keke-puaa and keke-saiga, Sula's Bakery has donated a brand new set of uniforms to the soccer club in a bid to boost the club’s performance in upcoming matches.

The bakery business owners, Tapunuu Papu Talopau and wife Rosa Talopau presented the sets of uniforms to the Moataa Sports Club President, Asi Tuiataga Blakelock in a ceremony last Friday.

Asi, a former police commissioner until his retirement in 2003, expressed his appreciation to the business couple for their support.

"Thank you for your help to the club and to the village and may God bless your business and your family,” he said. "We should be willing to help our village for the benefit of our children.”

Accompanied by his wife Telesa Elena at the presentation ceremony, Asi talked about the importance of working together as a community to support the welfare of their children, in this particular case their local soccer team.

Mr. and Mrs. Talopau said the village was looking for assistance and they thought it would be a good gesture to support the children’s soccer team.

"The village was looking for assistance and so we thought to help, especially for the children and to help the growth of this sport in our community and investing in the future of our people.”

They added that they were happy to offer their support to the team, especially during the current challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

One of the high chiefs of Moataa village, Asi Tunupopo, who welcomed everyone to the presentation ceremony last Friday said the soccer team needed help and the owners of Sula's Bakery had stepped forward.

"We were looking for a sponsor and so we asked the owners if they could help with the soccer club's uniform, they're pretty well known for their Keke-puaa,” said the matai.

He said the soccer team also got support from the Siva Afi and he was happy to see the team get their brand new uniforms.
