Javelin thrower Donny Tuimaseve has thrown another gold medal into Samoa’s basket, increasing the number of gold medals won by the athletes at the Pacific Mini Games in Saipan, Northern Marianas.

Tuimaseve represented the national flag in the men’s javelin and his win increased the number of gold won by Team Samoa to 4 and 3 bronze. He is the only athletes from the Samoan team playing a field event while his six other athletics colleagues are taking on track events.

The javelin thrower is no stranger in the regional games and had previously won gold medal for Samoa in the 2017 Mini Games in Vanuatu.

The weightlifting team has already scooped three gold and three bronze medals for Samoa on Wednesday.

According to the Weightlifting Federation's Facebook page, an outstanding lift by young Faustina Opeloge saw Samoa snatch three gold medals last night in the 81 kg Women division.

The young lifter also secured gold at the Oceania Senior Championships 2022 setting three new Oceania Youth Records.

Another strong lift by young Avatu Opeloge, who has been lifting for six months, also led to the collection of 3 bronze medals in the 76 kg women’s division.

For the men’s division, the only male lifter, 15-year-old Tovio Ah Chong set a new Oceania Youth record with 140 kg clean and jerk at the Pacific Mini Games.
