Local rugby team Ott Constructors Tama Uli has won the third round Cup Final 27-14 after a convincing victory over arch rivals Tepatasi.

This is the Salelologa team's second title from three rounds with hard fought victory enabling Ott Constructors Tama Uli to edge ahead of Tepatasi in the Series standings by one point on 61 point.

Round 3 of the series was themed "Equal Playing Field" in support of the UN Women's 16 Days of Activism to create awareness on ending violence against women and children.

Ott Constructors Tama Uli was able to reach the Cup Final of round three after beating Vailima Marist St. Josephs 31-0 in the quarterfinal and then defeating B.B.E Vaiala 17-12 in a semi-final nail bitter.

Tama Uli’s head coach Matamua Junior Salima said in an interview with the Samoa Observer that he is elated with his team’s achievement and taking top spot in the Vodafone National Sevens Series standings.

“The achievement is the fruition of all the boys’ commitment and hard work during training," he said. “We won the first leg of the series back in November after we defeated Tepatasi in the Cup Final of the first round.

“Then in Round 2 we lost some of our players who played in round one due to disciplinary issues which is why we didn’t make it to the final of Round 2 but we placed third.

“We were also able to win Tepatasi’s Sunrise Sevens Tournament which was held on the 4th December at Samusu Field, Aleipata, which boosted our morale going into the third round of the Vodafone National Sevens Series."

Matamua added that they could not have done it without the support of their village pastors, chiefs and their beloved village of Salelologa.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank the support of our village Salelologa and the big island of Savaii for backing us while we battled against all the top local sevens teams in the third round of the series.”

The head coach of Tama Uli said they will be looking to try and repeat what they achieved in this third round in the next upcoming leg of the series.
