Win or lose, a cricket team who traveled all the way from Saipipi, Savai'i, to take part in the Teuila Festival competition is excited.

Lalelei o Amoa from Saipipi has already recorded two losses and one win.

"Our team was selected by the Samoa International Cricket association because our team was in the top 5 for the Savaii competition," said Coach Matiu Toimoana.

"Only three teams from Savaii were able to participate and we're one of them."

Saipipi registered two teams however only one team was at the field on Monday afternoon when the Samoa Observer arrived at the cricket field.

"We registered two teams, but most of our players have gone back to Savaii this morning because some have school and some have work. So we have gathered the ones left to make up our one team that is currently playing," he explained.

The village of Saipipi is developing every sport for their youths.

They also have a rugby team, netball team, soccer team, and now their cricket team.

According to Toimoana, one of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture community outreach that was done in Savaii and it encouraged their village to focus on developing their youth's love for sports.

"One of MESC's program that was done in Savaii has motivated our village to develop different kinds of sports and involves our youth. You see, the kids that you see are playing in our cricket team are the same ones you will find in our soccer and rugby teams. We try our best to develop our youths as they are the future of tomorrow and we hear and see many incidents that involve the youth today so that's why we are focusing on sports as it is one of the things the youths are more interested in," he said.
