St Mary’s Sport Club in dominant performance

The St Mary’s Sport Club A grade netball team continues to dominate with a solid performance despite a strong challenge by United Soulz.

The two teams contested for each ball and passed to force some errors which were quickly capitalised with excellent shooting from both ends.

St Mary’s held a healthy lead in the first quarter 12-6 and second quarter 13-11 but then United Soulz clawed their way back in the third quarter to win 9-7 and tie at 11-11 in the last quarter.  However, it was not enough to grab the win from St Mary’s as the team held its composure through the court and was able to convert most of their turnovers into goals.

Knocking St Mary’s Sport Club off their perch will be high on the agenda of the chasing pack as championship goes into the latter part of the shield round.

According to Rosemarie, St Mary's has been holding the A-Grade shield for some time and each week teams are challenging the shields but St Mary's always keeps their composure.

"The four-time defending shield champions have gone from strength to strength each week and always put their younger players into the games for experience and exposure at this level of play," she said.

Just who stands in their way from a fifth-straight shield title remains to be seen but there is a generous sprinkling of experience and new talent emerging for their next opponent Apia East Flames on August 15 at 2.45pm, Multipurpose Sport Gymnasium.

The Netball League competition has a few more weeks before their finale, St Mary's are still the defending champion for the A-Grade shield.
