It was yet again a sweet victory for the B.B.E. Ulalei Vaiala Rugby Club yesterday.

Vaiala retained the Shield defeating challenger, Moamoa Rooster, 53-13.

It was just another day of rugby at the Apia Park Stadium hosted by the Taula Apia Rugby Union.

It was the second round of their Clubs tournament going head to head in front of their loyal spectators.

B.B.E. Vaiala came in as favorites as the Shield holder for the Taula Apia Rugby Union going up against new comer, Moamoa Rooster Rugby.

Moamoa Roosters dominated possessions within the first 10 minutes of the game.

B.B.E. Vaiala found them a scrum inside their 10 meter line and tested the Moamoa Roosters defense line from a set play ball to their Center, Fautua Otta, who scored a try in the corner to open their account for the day.

Their momentum started building when first five; Patrick Fa’apale, crossed over for their second try from a well worked team effort, followed by a successful conversion.

Moamoa fought back converting two penalties to close the gap 6-15 within the first 30 minutes of the game.

A loose ball from the Moamoa Rooster’s attack inside Vaiala’s 10 meter line was picked up by Vaiala fullback, Uili Leavasa, and sets up another try for right winger, Hugo Fata, just before half time, closing their lead to 20-6.

Moamoa Roosters came back with a convincing performance after the break to score the first points of the second half under the sticks by their right winger, who intercepted a loose ball from Vaila’s Fautua Otto’s offload. Conversion was successful taking their points up to 13-20.

B.B.E. Vaiala hit back with a try from Fautua Otto.

Vaiala open side flanker, Lester Sefo, dotted down for B.B.E. Vaiala just minutes after picking up a loose ball from Moamoa fullback in a kick and chase set play.

Moamoa Roosters enforced few errors and playing 13 men throughout the last 20 minutes of the second spell cost them the game.

But B.B.E. Vaiala kept their momentum going scoring four more tries from Patrick Fa’apale, Fili Setu, Uili Leavasa, closing the game at 53-13 at fulltime.

B.B.E. Vaiala Skipper, Joe Kapisi, was excited and proud of his team’s result.

“It’s a good effort from the boys, we just need to hold on to it and prepare and build up for the hard teams we will be going up against soon.”
