On road to FIFA World Cup for Samoa's history makers
The Samoa U-16 women's team who have become the first Samoan team to qualify for a FIFA World Cup concluded the first camp in Southern California in preparations for the FIFA World Cup in Morocco this year.
Coach Juan Chang Urrea in an interview said the camp was good and beneficial.
"We are always open to more players who can represent Samoa. We don't close the door to anyone who can bring value to the team. There are two local players, the ones that we had for the qualifiers. They are awesome. Florencina and Margaret. Margaret was the best goalkeeper of the World Cup qualifier," he said.
During their camping period, the girls were able to have two friendly matches against top ECNL teams, Slammers FC and Legends FC.
According to a statement posted by the Samoa Football Federation, the girls had a remarkable performance managing to showcase their growth and determination.
The Samoan community in California were seen cheering and supporting the girls as they took on these teams. It was a reminder that Samoa was behind them and supporting them throughout their preparations phase.
Team Samoa had a classroom session focusing on tactical and strategic learning. There were also presentations done by experts to further refine their approach. A gym session to enhance strength and conditioning, along with team bonding activities to build unity and their connections as a team.
The camp is a crucial part of their journey to Morocco. The team is more united, skilled, and ready for the challenge that lies ahead. They are also looking forward to what the next phase is for their preparations.
The next camping is yet to be made known.
