Marist golf played in top spirits
Alfred/Deporres has done it again. They were named the champions of the Marist Golf tournament on Friday evening at the Tuanaimato golf course.
Alfred/Deporres captain, Tavita Solomona believes his team's collective effort contributed greatly to their win today.
"The competition was based on a collective effort because there were four teams that competed, but they needed a collective effort to win the competition. They might have had good golfers but they need good scores to win the competition", he said.
"Obviously, winning is a bonus. Our golf team has been preparing for this tournament throughout the year because we have a golf club. We play regularly but we are all divided into four houses, the green, red, yellow, and blue.
"Basically, with our preparation, it is good to have the win. It's always a tough competition, I don't have much to say just credit to everyone who participated. I am just glad the win came our way."
The Alfred/Deporres team turned up in numbers at the Tuanaimato golf field, and according to Solomona that was one thing that separated his team from other teams. There was great sportsmanship from all four teams.
"I think the most key thing is the celebration of the hundred years and the Marist spirit, fellowship and sportsmanship. Everyone is behind their team and giving it their hundred percent. That's why it's great to be a part of this Marist celebration. It's very well organised."
Solomona did not attend any of the Marist schools however his involvement in the Marist golf team connected him to the association.
"I am not a Marist ex-scholar but I came to join the Marist golf club and they've decided to put me in the green house which is Alfred. That's how I'm affiliated here it's through the sport. The only sport that I'm participating in is golf. I was quite shocked that they named me captain as well."
"It's actually a blessing to be around this. I've been a part of the Marist golf club for three years, and it is really organised with things, like I said on the Marist spirit, they always put God first. Their association is very solid as well as their foundation. They follow one voice and I guess that's what makes them unique from other associations."
