Samoa Touch Team making progress at Touch World Cup

By Vaelei Von Dincklage

Samoa Touch teams, the Women Open, Senior Mixed, and Mixed Open continue to strive to meet their goal at the Touch World Cup currently happening in England.

Women Open has had a great start to their campaign by winning their first match against Hong Kong China, 10 - 3. They did not disappoint in their second match against Nederland 10 - 4. Luck was definitely on the Women's Open on their first match for the third day where they beat Thailand 18 - 2. Unfortunately, their luck ran out when they met England and went down to 11 - 2, and they lost again to New Zealand 19 - 0. It was a close match against the Irish where they lost 7 - 6 but came back stronger for their match against the Fijians, 7 - 4. They won both their games on day five, which was against the U.S.A., 5 - 3, and South Africa 11 - 8.

The Senior Mixed did not get the start that they wanted when they lost their first match against the French, 12 - 3. Luck was not on their side when they lost both their games on the second day as well against Wales and Australia. The Senior Mixed is yet to secure a win when they lost to Deutschland, U.S.A. and England on day three. Senior Mixed managed to secure a win when they beat Hong Kong China on day five, 7 - 2.

For the Mixed Open, they also had a bad start to their campaign when they lost to Wales and Lebanon. However, they were able to redeem themselves when they won their matches against Portugal, 9 - 5, and Papua New Guinea, 3 - 0. They came back stronger again for their next matches against Malaysia and beat them 15 - 8, as well as their match against Guernsey, 14 - 1. Unfortunately, they lost to France on day five, 13 - 6, and now have missed out on a spot for the Quarterfinals.
