Riverdale star, Keneti James Fitzgerald Apa, better-known as "KJ Apa" is in Samoa with his family and are currently staying at the Taumeasina Island Resort.

KJ, who plays Archie Andrews in the American supernatural horror drama series Riverdale which is now into its sixth season, has Samoan, Scottish and English ancestry.

Attempts by this newspaper to get an interview with the actor and songwriter on Sunday and Monday were not successful.

The Taumeasina Island Resort General Manager, Tuiataga Nathan Bucknall, confirmed that the Hollywood star and his family are guests at the resort.

However, Tuiataga said that KJ and his family do not want any publicity and just want to enjoy their vacation.

Apa is from the village of Moata'a and Nuusuatia and his father holds a matai title from the village of Moata'a and wears the Samoan traditional tattoo.

"He is a matai, yeah," Apa said during an interview on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show last year. "He holds the matai title, chief title, of the village that he's from and I'm from called Moata'a in Samoa."

Apa also confirmed that his grandfather was also a matai and that the title was passed on to his father after his grandfather's death.

When asked if the title would then be passed on to him, he admitted that that is something he isn't sure about.

"I don't know. I can't speak Samoan, so it'll be something for me to take that would be kind of, I would think it's a huge responsibility," he said. "I don't really feel adequate, to be honest, but I doubt myself in almost everything that I do."

Apa, whose mom is a European New Zealander, said he grew up playing rugby but never got as physically big as some Samoan football players.

"I was always waiting for the moment where I was going to be huge, growing up, because all my friends and all my family were just getting so big," the star said. "I was the scrawny little white boy in the family, the runt of the family kind of, that just wasn't growing.

"I had to play rugby against these guys who were three times my size; I'm talking like full-grown men, pretty much."

Furthermore, Apa said in a separate  interview with Vulture magazine that the Samoan culture has "always played a massive part" in his life.

"I've got hundreds of family on my dad's side that live in Samoa and in New Zealand. I've just been surrounded by the culture ever since I was a kid," the actor said. "I actually used to speak Samoan, but me and my sisters all kind of lost it. we go there at least once a year to see family."

The youngest of three children in his family, he has two older sisters, Timena and Ari. In addition to acting, KJ sings, writes songs and plays guitar.

The 24 year-old Riverdale star is the nephew of Moana Pasifika Trust chair and Samoan and All Blacks rugby legend Savae Sir Michael Jones.

With ties to the villages of Moata'a and Nuusuatia, where his father Tupa'i Keneti Apa was bestowed his paramount chiefly title, Apa was a talented rugby player at high school before making it big in Hollywood.
