The non-profit organisation Brown Girl Woke (B.G.W.) has donated 30 boxes of groceries and food supplies to frontline workers.
B.G.W. founder Maluseu Doris Tulifau told the Samoa Observer that the food donation is a partnership with Sally Chan Mow of the Mad Pacific Online Grocery Service.
She said the recipients of the donation included the Samoa Police Services, Samoa Red Cross, Ministry of Health, Fire and Emergency Services Authority and those currently working in Isolation.
"This donation definitely is needed to spotlight our frontline workers who could potentially put their own families and themselves at risk for our community and country," she said.
The boxes included tinned fish, noodles, rice, flour, sugar, milk, eggs, chips, Nutri-bars and mosquito coils.
Maluseu thanked the National Emergency and Operations Centre (N.E.O.C.) for helping to deliver the boxes of food to the various frontline workers.
She added that it can be frustrating working during the lockdown as the Government formulates a strategy that works best for Samoa.
“So we hope this act of kindness will continue as Brown Girl Woke will keep donating each week,” she said. "Our next donation will be next Saturday and thankful for these donors as they not only contribute monthly but did another donation to help us do this weekly.”
During the measles epidemic in 2019, the BGW learnt that a lot of families needed help with basic items due to concerns for their children.
"We have been consistent by giving groceries every month and that is what led us to give so easily during the COVID pandemic," Maluseu said.
The B.G.W. founder then acknowledged the support of Rose Santo Briganti, Snappy suga gaming, Kalani and Asuelu, Kiana Rivera, Chantelle Matagi, Christina piazzi and Tioata Gafa.
"We need to build strong relationships with overseas families and [organisations] to make sure they can help where they can,” she added. “That is where Brown Girl Woke is happy to be linked to a lot of Samoans overseas, especially America.
"We want to thank Sally Chan Mow and Mad Pacific for organising the boxes for us, Lepetit Seoul and Seoul Good Samoa for donating Samyang Korean noodles.
"Huge thank you to all our overseas donors that make monthly donations to make sure that we can give to our vulnerable families and frontline workers."
B.G.W. plans to continue their donations to frontline workers and asked the public that whoever wishes to donate can visit their Facebook page or website.
