Leala denies copying F.A.S.T. roadshows

The Secretary of the Human Rights Protection Party (H.R.P.P) has denied that they are seeking to mimic the Government's campaigning style by staging roadshows ahead of seven crucial by-elections.
The Fa'atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (F.A.S.T) party successfully held a series of roadshow-style political events, in the lead up to April's general elections drawing crowds of hundreds.
But F.A.S.T. party's style of campaign outreach attracted criticism at the time, including from the now opposition party.
A pre by-election mass gathering was held by the H.R.P.P. in Sagaga No. 2 on Monday, dubbed by many as a 'roadshow'. But Lealailepule Rimoni Aiafi denied the description was accurate.
He says the party is instead rather only holding "meetings with voters upon request".
Earlier this year, former Prime Minister and now opposition leader Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi said that F.A.S.T. party's roadshow is "a foreign practice".
"We don't do roadshows. we will never do roadshows, we don't follow what F.A.S.T does, we don't do roadshows," Lealailepule told the Samoa Observer.
"We only go out if people request us to come because there has been a lot of allegations, false allegations put out by F.A.S.T the last time. We ignore it.
"We just call it a meeting on request, requested by the constituencies for us to come and explain and clarify all these lies that's being alleged before the general election.
"So we are here to face and give them our side of the story, but we will not do a roadshow, we never agreed on any roadshow."
Lealailepule stated that if a constituency does not request a meeting then they will not go there.
"Only when they ask to come in and explain our side of the story to all the allegations, so that's why we are here," he said.
He explained that the meeting at Sagaga No.2 was supposed to take place in the afternoon on Monday but will be held in the evening.
Asked if it will be held in Malie he said: "No, we don't go to Malie, we are not going there."
