The Police Commissioner Fuiavaili'ili Egon Keil has tendered his resignation to the Minister of Police Monday morning with his exit effective immediately.

The Samoa Observer caught up with the Police Commissioner as he walked out of the Minister of Police, Faualo Harry Schuster's office on Monday morning.

"Today I can confirm that I have resigned as the Police Commissioner of Samoa," said Fuiavailiili in an exclusive interview with the Samoa Observer.

"I have decided that my time of service has also come to its conclusion.

"I have served two terms and have decided that it is time to focus on spending time with my family and other personal pursuits."

His immediate departure from the position on Monday brings to an end his career with the Samoa Police Service after more than six years of service as the Commissioner.

He said he remains confident in his management team continuing his work after his exit.

"The Ministry has a strong group of [Police Commissioner] Deputies and police officers that I am grateful to have worked with," Fuiavaili'ili said.

"I am confident they will continue their dedicated hard work for Samoa.

"I have devoted my life to be the best police officer I can be, in service of the community." Fuiavaili'ili  added that for him to be elevated to the Police Commissioner's position in the country of his birth has been an honour and privilege for him and his family.

Prior to taking up the position more than six years ago, Fuiavailiili had served as a sergeant and retired honorably from the Los Angeles Police Department (L.A.P.D.) in the United States.
