A family in Faleu Manono are left shaken as to what they claim are "barbaric acts" as their store was set on fire and their homewas  stoned by members of the village Thursday night.

The fire was quickly extinguished by the family members.

Speaking on Thursday, the morning after the attack, Atalelei Faapito, told the Samoa Observer this this was not the Samoa that he knew.

"You'd never anticipated that chiefs played a part in ordering such barbaric acts to stone our home in the middle of the night while my children are asleep," said the mother-of-five.

"How can this happen in a country where people go to church every Sunday and chiefs are supposed to protect and keep the peace?"

The village council refused to comment when approached by the Samoa Observer.

* This is a developing story.
