‘Buy Samoa Made’ campaign to boost local industry
The new Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries (M.A.F.), Laauli Leuatea Schmidt, has announced a new "Buy Samoa Made" campaign which he says will move local Samoan produce and eventually exports “like never before."
Details of the programme that will be implemented over the next 12 months, have not been publicised yet.
But Laauli spoke of the programme in several posts that were published Tuesday on Facebook.
From the posts, we learn that Buy Samoa Made involves M.A.F., the Samoa Trust Estate Corporation (S.T.E.C.) and the Scientific Research Organisation of Samoa (S.R.O.S.).
The programme is “different”and “exciting,” Laauli said.
“Together with our highly qualified and hard working public servants from our Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, S.T.E.C. and S.R.O.S., we will be bringing you something different!,” he exclaimed in his initial Buy Samoa Made post.
“Over the next 12 months we will be moving our produce and exports like never before. It’s exciting times and we are pumped here! That is our vision together with the Women and Men of your ministries Samoa! Buy Samoa Made! Moving forward together!”
To a Facebook following of more than 20,000, Laauli shared S.T.E.C. photos of taro being packed for export and koko Samoa.
The program will publish weekly updates on where consumers can purchase Buy Samoa Made products.
Laauli is already encouraging consumers to purchase products made in Samoa.
“We are looking to expand this and push it to overseas markets. It’s time for our farmers to start working again!,” he said.
“We will be doing weekly updates of where you can purchase Samoa Made Products and always remember to Buy Samoa Made.”
The program incorporates the use of social media to inform consumers where they can buy produce made in Samoa.
Laauli and representatives from S.T.E.C. and S.R.O.S. are scheduled to introduce and share details of the Buy Samoa Made Programme in a Blu TV podcast on Wednesday, 11 August at 6:30 p.m. Samoa Time.
“I will be on tomorrow at 6:30pm Samoa Time on the programme below to introduce our new Buy Samoa Made Programme. I will also be updating you on the different media platforms that myself and the management of the different divisions will be using to update our Samoa on where you can Buy Samoa Made Produce! Manuia le Aso Samoa!,” he said.
In a Facebook post, Blu TV invites listeners to tune in every Wednesday for the Tautai A'e ma Asiata podcast “where will be talking with the Samoa Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries as well representatives from Samoa Trust Estate Corporation and (S.T.E.C.) and Scientific Research Organisation of Samoa (S.R.O.S.).”
The “special segment” is aimed at promoting Buy Samoa Made products and also to keep consumers informed of where Samoa products can be purchased.
The Buy Samoa Made program was announced just four days after M.A.F. welcomed its returning minister and his associate minister Vaele Sekuini Paiaaua.
Laauli with the support of Vaele is responsible for the M.A.F., S.R.O.S. and S.T.E.C.
