No power outage in Sigamoga: E.P.C. chief

The Electrical Power Corporation General Manager says they don’t have any records of customers in Sigamoga, Apia reporting electricity fluctuations.

Faumui Tauiliili Toemoana said this when responding to questions sent to him by the Samoa Observer after a Sigamoga resident reported two cases of power fluctuation over the last two weeks.

An E.P.C. resident who lives in Sigamoga, who didn’t want to be identified, told this newspaper that the electricity supply over the last two weeks has been weak leading to fluctuations and it has been recurring.

“It was like the power was reduced. The lights flickered and went dim, the fan was moving so slowly then after two hours it picked up its speed again,” she said.

“But when the power was flickering when I turned my bedroom lights on it just wouldn’t go back on again it seemed low.

“I was only able to turn the light on after the lights were fully restored and even last week our power went out.”

However, in a text message reply to the Samoa Observer, Faumui said they don’t have records of any complaints in relation to the events that the E.P.C. customer described and complained about.

“Yesterday we had our power disruption to some of our customers at Tuanaimato due to a family cutting a tree on to the power lines, although last Friday there was a power outage affecting part of Tuanaimato, Faleula, Tafaigata, and the west side of the country caused by a bus that hit one of our high voltage poles at Tapatapao,” he said.

Meanwhile the E.P.C. released a statement on Thursday advising that there will be power cuts which will affect parts of Fogatuli from 10.30am to 4.40pm. This is due to upgrade work on high voltage electricity lines and the relocation of an electric pole, which is in the way of road construction in the affected areas.
