Former Fire chief withdraws anti-F.A.S.T. challenge

The Faatuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (F.A.S.T.) has successfully secured an election victory after the losing candidate withdrew a legal challenge against the party's victorious Member-elect.

F.A.S.T. party member Tusiupu Apulu Fesolai handily won the seat of Aana Alofi No. 1 at the 9 April general election.

But the seat was the subject of a legal challenge before the former Fire Commissioner, Taueva Faafouina Mupo, the losing Human Rights Protection Party (H.R.P.P.) candidate. 

But Taueva  decided to withdraw his election petition on Friday. 

Taueva, announced through his legal counsel that they have settled the matter outside of court and he has consequently decided to withdraw his case against Fesolai.

Taueva claimed 478 votes to Fesolai's 766 votes during the 9 April election. 

The matter will be called again next Wednedsay at 12.30pm to formalise the withdrawal.

Fesolai was represented by lawyer, Tanya Toailoa while Taueva was represented by Tuatagaloa Shane Wulf.
