The Chief Executive Officer of the Samoa Rugby Union (S.R.U), Faleomavaega Vincent Fepulea’i, has rejected reports that former Manu Samoa coach, Namulauulu Alama Ieremia, was sacked.

Speaking during a media conference yesterday, Faleomavaega made it absolutely clear that Namulauulu came to the decision on his own after a review initiated by the S.R.U Board.

“Failing to achieve the best results he promised before taking on the Head Coach role was the main motive behind his resignation,” Faleomavaega said.

He added that the poor performance of Manu Samoa during the previous Pacific Nations Cup, the dismal winning record and the team’s failure to qualify for the Rugby World Cup were other reasons for his resignation.

Faleomavaega confirmed that Namulauulu’s resignation arrived at the S.R.U Office last Friday, the day when the Review report was submitted.

Asked for a copy of the review report, Fepulea’i declined.

But he said the S.R.U has already started work on finding a new coach.

He said the search would consider local and international applications and the best candidate would be chosen.

The C.E.O said they are hoping to recruit a coach by next month so Manu Samoa can begin preparations for its end of year tour and most importantly the last chance for Samoa to qualify for the Rugby World Cup.
