The U.S. Embassy hosted a special handover ceremony at the American Corner (2nd floor of Nelson Memorial Library) with the presentation of new computers, educational and learning materials, furniture and décor, as well as another year of free internet for all students of Samoa.  

U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Tony Greubel was on hand to deliver remarks for the event.  

“I am very pleased to deliver these resources to the American Corner because I know how much potential this place has to offer to the public, especially to students. I look forward to the American Corner being a fresh and positive hub for students and a major resource for the community,” Chargé Greubel said. 

The ceremony also acknowledged  the U.S. Embassy’s $17,600 grant to the Ministry of Education, Sport, and Culture to conduct educational programming at the Corner for the year to come, with the majority of funds going to Quenjule Slaven’s Turn A Life Programme, which focuses on after school learning activities for street vendors and underprivileged children. 

This is a continuing initiative by the U.S. Embassy in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Sports, and Culture at the American Corner, in order to provide literacy and educational resources to the general public-with a particular emphasis on the student population, free or at minimal cost, while at the same time promoting various aspects of American culture.
