A car club based in Hawaii has donated US$5,000 ($12,336) worth of clothing and supplies to families affected by recent floods in Samoa.

The Kingdom Souljahz Car Club's President, Ron Tominiko, told the Samoa Observer in an interview on Monday that the purpose of the event was to help families in Samoa affected by the flooding in December.

He said they felt compelled to assist and they received a lot of donations such as clothes, shoes, books and school supplies with the total cost adding up to a total of US$5,000.

An additional US$500 was donated by Red Door Boutique to help with the shipping cost.

To get the charity-drive going, they posted about the drive-by charity donation on social media, leading to donations coming from their members as well as other car clubs in Hawaii, churches and various people.

“Tomorrow I will be taking everything to Triple B Forwarders, they are one of our sponsors that is going to help us send all these stuff to Samoa,” said Mr Tominiko.

Asked if their car club has any plans to do anything similar in the future, he said they are always involved in the community.

He added that their first event was passing out hand sanitizers and essentials needed during the lockdown, especially for the homeless as well as doing outreach programmes every month.

Mr. Tominiko acknowledged the support of their sponsors: Triple B Forwarders, Pacific Concrete Cutting & Coring, Demolition/Nationals Concrete Sawing and Covan Worldwide Moving.

The Kingdom Souljahz Car Club is a non-profit and volunteer-based organisation with a vision statement to be a premier car club in Hawaii and is known as an organisation for its fundraising efforts that help the less fortunate.

The club strives to improve the quality of life for others through showing the love of God and to improve resources to equip them to be better members of society.

Established on 18 July 2020, the club comprises 19 members with the majority made up of Samoans.

The club hosted a drive-by charity donation on Monday and was assisted by other car clubs, Uso Fealofani Club and Mana Wai Car Club.
