The Ministry of Finance will begin releasing wage assistance to people who lost their jobs because of the coronavirus pandemic next week.

After a long review of businesses who submitted their employees in need through the Samoa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, M.O.F. announced it will begin releasing funds from next Monday 07 December until Wednesday 16 December.

The funds will be transferred into the former employee’s bank account in the next fortnight.

For those who did not nominate a bank account they can pick up the funds directly with proof of identity – either a passport or driver’s license.

A schedule has been issued to businesses with locations for anyone who needs to pick up their funds in person, and anyone who misses out earlier in the week can visit the Chamber of Commerce offices in Sanalele on Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 December.

Staff who were made redundant will each receive $300; those placed on leave without pay will get $200 and employees with reduced hours or working part-time will receive $100.

Businesses that are eligible include hotels/resorts; restaurants and bars; car rentals companies; manufacturing exporters; travel agents; businesses operating at Faleolo International Airport; and Talofa Airways.
