A couple jailed for possession of marijuana say they did not own a box of marijuana found at their home at Vaitele-uta during a Police raid in 2018. 

Faaoga Eteuati and Alisa Seuga, of Vaitele-uta and Vaigaga, had pleaded guilty to one count of possession of marijuana. 

During sentencing before Justice Tafaoimalo Leilani Tuala - Warren on Tuesday afternoon, Eteuati told the Court that a noodle box in which 120 marijuana cigarettes were stored did not belong to either he or his wife. 

Justice Tuala - Warren told the defendant that his response was the same as everyone else who appeared before the court for the same offence.  

She added that the amount discovered by Police was also for commercial purposes. 

According to a summary of facts, the Police suspected the home of the couple was used to sell marijuana. 

The Court heard that Police then carried out a raid in July 2018 and found a total of 120 marijuana cigarettes in a box of noodles and marijuana leaves. 

Seuga is 27-years-old and has a nine-year-old child. She is from Maagiagi and Vaitele-uta.

Eteuati is a 31-year-old man who works for a construction company; he has an older son. 

Justice Tuala-Warren told the defendants that they could not  escape imprisonment due to the amount of marijuana found at their home. 

She then sentenced the 31-year-old male to two-and-a-half years in prison and the woman to one-and-a-half years at the Tanumalala Prison facility. 

The prosecutor in the case was the Attorney General's Office lawyer, Ann Matalasi.
