More than 200,000 Samoan citizens have registered for the Government’s census and national identification scheme.

This was confirmed by the Assistant Chief Executive Officer of Census, Survey and Demography Division, Taiaopo Faumuina, under the Samoa Bureau of Statistics (S.B.S.).

According to Ms. Faumuina, she said that as of October 24 2020,  Samoan citizens who have already claimed their $50 as part of the census had hit 205,135, costing $10,256,750.

The budget for this expense was approved by Parliament in May this year as part of the Government’s Phase II Stimulus Package.

This is 10th week since the registrations started in August of this year, with the A.C.E.O. adding that a total of 228 villages in Upolu island, six sub-villages in Manono; one village in Apolima and 102 in Savai'i. have been covered.

Although the preliminary results have shown that Samoa’s population has hit 212,000, the counting is not final.

Ms. Faumuina also advised that from Thursday to Saturday this week, there will be fixed sites for all those missing persons from 9am-4.30pm at TATTE Conventional Centre at Sogi and EFKS Youth Hall at Mulinuu.
