The Office of the Electoral Commission [O.E.C.] will process the final registration of new eligible voters this Friday as preparations for the 2021 General Election continues.

In response to queries from the Samoa Observer, Electoral Commissioner, Faimalomatumua Mathew Lemisio confirmed the processing closes this week before a final review of the roll.

“Out of the 833 applications we received by 4pm of the 8th October 2020, we have completed the registration process for 684,” said Faimalo.

“This Friday will be the last day to complete the process before we start the final review of the roll.

“Our Office is continuing to contact those remaining to come in and complete the registration.”

The Commissioner advised those voters to come in before Friday to avoid any last minute rush.

He said a total of 3631 eligible voters were registered on the last week of the voter registration.

It could not be confirmed how many eligible voters are there for 2021 but this will be made known after the final review of the roll is completed on 2 December 2020.

The O.E.C. was overwhelmed with an influx of members of the public who turned up on the last day of registration, causing a chaos at the E.F.K.S. Hall at Sogi.

Some members of the public fainted while others got injured when they were caught in the crowd.
