A partnership between local fashion event, LIFE-Con, and the National University of Samoa (N.U.S.) has created a lot of excitement among students at the university.

The partnership will enable 15 students from the university’s visual art program to exhibit 200-300 paintings, and this is what they are excited about.

Julie Tupu Tauiliili and Ieronimo Pio Manua are among the students involved.

In an interview with the Samoa Observer, Ms. Tauilili said it is her first time to be part of a large event such as LIFE-Con and she is grateful for the opportunity that now avails itself to her and her colleagues.

She said their senior visual arts and education lecturer at the N.U.S. Faculty of Education, Matatumua Leua Latai, told them of the arrangement.

N.U.S. Bachelor of Commerce student, Ieronimo Pio Manua, expressed the same sentiments when he was asked to comment by this newspaper.

"It's a part of my life where I can share my opinions, how I feel. It's telling others about your life and opinions,” he said.

Revealing that art was always his passion, Mr. Manua said that he started painting when he was in Year 12.

Matatumua told the Samoa Observer that she accepted the opportunity to promote the university’s visual art program as well as assist students have a career in the arts.

She said 15 students will be part of the LIFE-Con and they are looking at displaying 200-300 paintings at the event, though depending on space availability.

“They will be producing a minimum of 10 paintings and a maximum of 14," Matatumua said.

People attending the LIFE-Con event will be able to purchase the art with the senior lecturer emphasising that the event will be a good opportunity for the students to learn how to market themselves.

According to Matatumua, students finished a course in graphics design where they were able to create children's books and business cards, will be able to present their business cards and portfolios at the event.
