Govt. awards $6.4 million contract to Zheng Company for Emergency Center

The Government has awarded a $6.40 million tala contract to Zheng Construction Co. Ltd to build the National Emergency Operations Centre.

The tender was approved last month. 

Other companies that vied for the tender included Pacific Engineering Projects Ltd, Fletcher Construction Co. Ltd, Jiangsu Geology & Engineering, Schwarz Construction Co. Ltd and Ah Liki Construction Co. Ltd. 

Zheng Construction Co. Ltd is owned by Peizheng Wang and Jie Xue of China and Feagaimaleata Lei Sam of Ululoloa. 

The Center, which comes under the Disaster Management Office, is part of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. 

According to Ministry of Finance tender documents, the contract amount is $6,403,975.44 and the implementing Agency is the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.  

M.N.R.E. Chief Executive Officer, Ulu Bismark Crawley, has not responded to questions from the Samoa Observer at the time of going to press. 

The Center will serve as a disaster coordination centre and is responsible for ensuring the ongoing coordination, development and implementation of Disaster Risk Management programmes and activities in Samoa. 

The Zheng Construction Co. Ltd also won a $10.5 million contract as part of the waterfront project last year. 

These would cover the outdoor performance area in front of the F.M.F.M.I.I. Government Building, which can be changed into a government events facility and a pedestrian walkway from the Clock Tower to the waterfront edge.
