A General Election candidate for Palauli wants to tackle the challenge of youth unemployment and increase the minimum wage.

Tupaimatuna Seinafolava Savaiinaea, of Salailua, an employee of the Samoa Tourism Authority (S.T.A.), says these will form the basis of his election platform, having decided recently eye a change in his career path.

Flagging the Tautua Samoa Party banner, Tupaimatuna said he is aware that there are many graduates who are still struggling to find employment.

He feels that this is one area that needs more attention on ways to provide employment for graduates so they help out with their families in villages.

One of the programmes that he pointed to that has contributed a lot to families in villages is the seasonal work for locals going to Australia and New Zealand for temporary work.

Tupaimatuna also touched on the minimum wage issue saying that people have to wait for years until a cent is added to their wage.

He said these are just some of the topics that he wants to explore more and work on should he be successful in the upcoming general election.

The father of five will be challenging incumbent M.P. for Palauli West, Afoa Faleulu Mauli.

Tupaimatuna has been living overseas for sometimes in the past and had recently moved back to develop his family in 2008.
