A young lady who wants to become a banker is the top Year 7 student at Falefitu Primary School this year.

Heta Paulo of Leonē and Matātufu, Aleipata, was presented the award during prize giving last week.

Heta was not only the top student in Year 7, she also scooped first place awards in English, Maths, Social Studies, Basic Science and Health and Physical education.

She told the Samoa Observer that she wants to work in a bank when she grows up.

“My favorite subject is Mathematics,” she said.

“I always admire the people who work in the bank and as a young person I know one day that will be me.

“I want to be able to provide for my family in the future because I know my family doesn’t have a lot of money.

“We struggle and seeing my parents’ sacrifice for me to be in school, I owe them a lot.

“It is my ultimate dream to give my family a better life and I know I can do that if I do well in school.”

Heta’s mother, Failagi Paulo, was in tears when asked how she felt about her daughter’s achievement.

“I am not well and I can barely walk, but when her name was called, I stood up and made my way to the front to greet her,” said Ms. Paulo.

“Despite the pain I feel in my legs, I was very happy and I was in tears.

“I silently said a prayer to thank God for answering our prayers.

“This is the best Christmas gift ever.

“My prayer is that I want to live long to see Heta succeed in life.

“I know she always says that one day she will build us a stable house and provide for us and I know she will.

“She’s very determined when it comes to her school work and I just can’t thank God enough for all He has done for me, especially the wisdom and knowledge that He was able to instill in Heta.”
