While some headed out to the beach at the tail-end of the Father’s Day long weekend, the Samoa Meteorology Division has issued a caution about possible rough weather overnight as southeast winds and strong currents combine to make rough seas.

The severe weather information was issued by the Meteorological Division on Monday.

According to the Meteorology Division, their small crafts advisory will be effective for all coastal to open waters of Samoa.

“An intense high-pressure system analysed to the north of New Zealand this morning,” read the weather notice.

It also added that this system is expected to drift eastward and will generate high swells as well as moderate to fresh southeast winds across all coastal to open waters of Samoa later today. 

The potential impacts include fresh southeast winds with strong currents as well as rough seas. 

The weather advisory from the Meteorology Division follows last week’s heavy rain advisory which was triggered by a convergence zone to the southwest of Samoa, associated with cloud and rain and now continues to drift further to the southeast and away from the islands. 

It was also reported that Samoa was under the influence of the easterly wind flow, providing fine weather with some brief showers in some areas for Monday. Due to these conditions, an advisory for heavy rainfall is now cancelled for all of Samoa.
