The big island of Savai'i is ready to welcome 32 of the best Sevens rugby teams in Samoa this weekend.

The teams vying for the Vodafone Samoa National Sevens Series Cup will also have the chance to leave the big island with $3,000 cash prize.

General Manager of the Samoa Rugby Union's High Performance Unit, Seumanu Douglas Ngau Chun, said people of Savai'i are looking forward to some exciting rugby on Friday and Saturday.

With the tournament being held at Don Bosco fields, Salelologa and Prince Edward Park, Iva, the fact the defending champions are from Savai'i has added to the excitement.

The other two legs of the Series will be held in Upolu.

Of the 32 teams, 18 are from Upolu with the rest from Savai'i.

There are only six women’s teams competing in this year’s tournament for the trophy and cash prize money of $400.

“When we started preparations there were 24 but the number of teams has increased by 32."

Seumanu acknowledged Vodafone Samoa for being the major sponsor.
