Police investigate restaurant's 'crawling man'

The photo of a man in black shorts and a singlet crawling on the floor of a restaurant while peering at a security camera has gone viral on social media, but the Police now see him as a person of interest.

Deputy Police Commissioner, Papali’i Monalisa Tiai-Keti, has confirmed in an interview with the Samoa Observer that they are now investigating a matter relating to the viral photo.

“We confirm that we’re investigating this case which happened on Sunday,” she said.

It is understood the photo of the unidentified man came from the security camera of the Amani Restaurant, which is located in the heart of Apia.

When the restaurant was approached for comment, the management said they had already found the thief identified in security camera photos.

The photo of the unknown intruder was uploaded to Facebook by a Yvonnedrelina Epati, who made an appeal in Samoan urging the public to assist identify and find a male aged in his 20-30s.

“Please share this. The police are looking for this wickedness thief who stole money and properties from the Amani Restaurant yesterday [Sunday],” Epati posted. “Please contact Amani Restaurant or give us a call.”

By 7pm on Monday [Samoa Time] the Facebook post already had over 1,000 shares, over 700 reactions and close to 250 comments.
