Govt's top legal position advertised

Lawyers interested in the position of Attorney General can now submit their applications, with the vacancy officially advertised. 

The position has been vacant since former Attorney General, Lemalu Hermann Retzlaff, resigned in February.

The call for applications is posted on the Public Service Commission's website.

The advertisement states that those keen to apply for the position, which commands a salary of between $124,000 and $129,000, will have to do so by Monday 29 June 2020. 

According to the job description, experience sought from the applicant is a person that is eligible to be a Judge of the Supreme Court of Samoa having practiced as a barrister for at least eight years in Samoa. 

The position that has a term of three years requires the applicant to have a qualification of a law degree and currently admitted or is eligible for admission to the Supreme Court of Samoa. 

The position functions include principal legal adviser to the Head of State, the Prime Minister and Cabinet, responsible for all civil proceedings involving Government, drafting legislations amongst other work. 

The Acting Attorney General is Galumalemana Loretta Teueli.

Lemalu resigned four months ago to pursue work opportunities in New Zealand after his contract was extended following his initial three year contract that ended in April last year.
