Faleolo Airport and Samoa Airways offices closed

Faleolo International Airport is closed until further notice, and the Samoa Airport Authority (S.A.A.) offices will only operate from 9am until 3pm, in accordance with the national lockdown and state of emergency.

All stores, dining and airlines have closed and emptied from the airport.

Further, with no flights allowed in or out of the country, nor any date in place to lift the ban, Samoa Airways have closed their country offices in New Zealand, Australia and Samoa from Thursday.

Their phone lines remain open for future bookings, with the American Samoa office having limited hours.

The public is banned from entering the airport until further notice. Cabinet will be reviewing the current terms of the state of emergency and advise accordingly next week.

S.A.A. Chief Executive Officer Silimanai Ueta Solomona told the Samoa Observer that management is working on a proposal to its Board on, among other things, a relief package for tenants of the airport such as the food courts, gift shops and more.

The Airport will also not be collecting landing fees from Samoa Airways whilst its planes are grounded at Faleolo indefinitely.

There are now 22 suspected cases of COVID-19, 16 of which have returned negative, the Ministry of Health confirmed late on Wednesday evening.

With the country on lockdown and movements severely restricted for older people and groups, the Government of Samoa is hoping any unwelcome cases of the virus are quickly contained, treated and recovered before it can spread and potentially devastate the population.
