World Bank funds for road reconstruction have been put to use in maintaining the Faleula to Puipaa  road.

The Land and Transport Authority (L.T.A.) confirmed that four companies are involved in the road project.

Ott Construction has been working alongside Silva Group, T & N Toleafoa Co. Ltd. and Ulia Construction for the past month.

The project is slated for conclusion in eight months.

An attempt by the Samoa Observer to secure comments from the construction companies and the L.T.A. on Friday was unsuccessful.

Some locals said road closures and large machines had made transport in the area difficult.

But Vili Viliamu from Faleula said:

"The project started after new years and since then we had to wait in traffic for more than 30 minutes before reaching Puipaa"

"They are doing a great job and the results will surely be satisfying”.

But bumpy and rocky roads have increased a previous 30 minute drive to town to two hours, other locals said.

When heavy rain falls driving also becomes difficult, one worker at the site said on Friday.
