Internet outages affected much of the country on Tuesday as interruptions to the Bluesky broadband data services affected businesses and residences.

The outage lasted for over six hours and caused the telecommunications provider apologised to customers affected who were affected on Tuesday afternoon.

“Our broadband data and international calling is temporarily down due to unforeseen issues with our gateway," the company said.

“Our technical services teams are working to restore service.”

However the outage did not affect the company's national voice and messaging services, its management team said.

The Samoa Observer contacted Bluesky management but there was no response as of press time.

One customer posted on the company's Facebook notice asking why Bluesky customers were not notified of the outages via text message.

“How can we [have] received your notice if we can't access the internet when your system is down,” said Osana Alesana.

By after 6pm internet service was fully restored.

“Bluesky Management thank you all for your support and patience. Please be advised that all Bluesky Services that were temporarily down have been fully restored," the company said in a text message to affected customers.

"We regret the inconvenience caused to you due to unavoidable technical issues".
