Power outages hit Upolu

Major parts of Upolu were struck by power outages on Monday afternoon, the cause of which remains unknown.

The Electric Power Corporation (E.P.C.) took to social media to notify customers of the situation, saying their technical teams had been dispatched to investigate the cause.

"Power will be restored to your homes and businesses as soon as and safely as possible," the statement read.

Traffic lights were also down in the Vaitele area.

Photos from the E.P.C. showed the outages reaching across areas from Vaivase Uta through cross-island road and up to Siumu, towards Saanapu Tai.

Outages struck the town area, from Mulinu'u, Apia to Moto'otua and Tanugamanono, and from Fagalii through to the east coastal villages including Falevao. Southeast coastal villages including Saleilua, Falealili up to Ti'avea tai were also affected. 

Further inland villages include Alamagoto, Sinamoga, Alafua and Moamoa, and most of the villages on the west cost of Upolu, from Saina to Falelatai area also experienced blackouts. 

Manono Tai was also reportedly affected. 

At 7pm on Monday night, electricity remained off Vaitele.
