The annual Teachers Conference facilitated by Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture (M.E.S.C.) has been postponed until further notice due to the bad weather.

Chief Executive Officer of M.E.S.C., Afamasaga Dr. Karoline Fuata'i announced the cancellation of the conference in a public notice on Friday.

“All activities for the Annual Teachers Conference which was scheduled to start with a church service on the 19th of January and all programmes from then until the 23rd of January have been postponed due to bad weather conditions,” stated the public notice.

Afamasaga added that it is their hope that God will ensure a safe start to another academic year.

The notice informed principals, School committees, teachers of Government, church and private Schools of the postponement.

The annual conference consists of presentations from various stakeholders focusing on the achievements and challenges of previous years faced by the education system to better prepare for a new academic year.

It is also a chance for teachers and principals to undergo workshops or training programmes that assist in areas of their profession.

The Minister of Education, Sports and Culture, Loau Keneti Sio in previous interviews relayed that teachers and school principals have a critical role to play in shaping Samoa’s future.

He added that the annual conference is an opportunity for all stakeholders to commemorate, share and prepare for another year of teaching and learning.

Loau also said that it is significant to promote the need to measure important educational indicators – to guide the way forward for achievement of quality education for the young people of Samoa.
