The two victims from a car crash at Aleisa which claimed two lives during the weekend have been identified.

They are “loving husband and father”, Ioane Mapusua and his “hardworking right hand man”, Tailo Vaoesea Tupou.

The commercial farmer was with two brothers, who are both live-in employees, at the time of the crash.

The lone survivor is Tailo's brother, Eric Vaoesea Tupou.

Mr. Mapusua is married to Dora Tamapeau Ioane and they have one teenage daughter. They have a home in Siusega.

He is known for his achievements in commercial farming, winning awards in agricultural competitions over the years.

Family members told Samoa Observer that Mapusua’s one and only daughter was his world.

His right hand man, Tupou, originally from Savai'i, was treated like family and had no family of his own, the Samoa Observer was told.

The crash occurred late Saturday evening at Aleisa, not far from Mr. Mapusua's plantation.

The incident comes just three days after the two had returned from New Zealand.

A member of Mr. Mapusua's family, who does wish to be named, said they were on their way back from preparing and collecting the crops to be sold the next day.

The Samoa Observer was told that there was no other vehicle involved.

There is no further investigation into the matter by Police, said the family member.

"They swerved the car too hard to avoid hitting an object," she said.

"There is no further investigation by Police because what had happened is clear. It was an accident, not a brawl between them and anyone."

The family member also wished to clear up the rumours that the car was towed away to be hidden.

She said it was towed from the crash site to Mr. Mapusua's brother's residence, on Police's release orders.

"We had no intention of hiding the car, no one was going to sit there all night to look after it," she said.

"The Police, the Fire and Emergency as well as the ambulance was there, we did not hide a vehicle at all. In fact the Police came back to us asking where we had towed it to and we showed them."

During the towing process, the family of the deceased discovered that properties that were in the vehicle had been removed by bystanders.

The Police did not respond to questions from the Samoa Observer as of press time.
