Fuel prices have dropped for the last month of the year with a gas station owner saying his customers will welcome the decrease.

The Minister of Finance, Sili Epa Tuioti, has advised in a statement that the retail price of petrol will drop by 2.61 sene from $2.69 to $2.67 sene per litre.

Diesel price will also drop from $2.76 to $2.74 sene per litre, while kerosene which will currently selling at the retail price of $2.41 will go down to $2.37 sene per litre.

The new price structure for petroleum products will be effective December 1-31 and cover the crucial Christmas period.

The lowest recorded retail prices for petrol and diesel this financial year were in February and March, falling between 2.20 sene and 2.00 sene per litre.

Sili Ve’a of the Vailoa gas station says that his customers who fill their cars regularly ask about the changes to the gas prices.

He said the changing rates tend to the usual complaints from customers who are of the view that the price drop is not big.

When asked to comment on the new rates which went into effect from December 1, Mr. Ve’a said it is early days yet but any kind of drop in retail prices translates to less complaints from their customers.

“I think the decrease in the prices of petroleum  is a very good idea as it has given us less stress from our customers. A lot have complained before and with the prices now we are getting along very well with our customers,” he added.
