The Chinese Embassy has donated $63,000 to Vailima Primary School to enable it to purchase chairs, tables and musical equipment.

The donation was celebrated with a traditional 'ava ceremony with the village representatives and leaders thanking the diplomatic mission for their support.

The funding will be used to buy 60 plastic chairs, over 100 tables, a Yamaha piano and a public announcement system.

Village representative, So'oialo Lemi So'oialo, said the new school equipment will contribute to the development of village youth and the community generally.

"Your Excellency, I hope that you are aware that we have indeed made good relationships with some previous Ambassadors years ago," he said.

"And therefore we are willing to continue to strengthen these ties between our village and your headquarter here in Vailima as long as time will permit. That means that we are in a one big family."

China's Ambassador to Samoa, Chao Xiaoliang, was present and congratulated the village representatives.

Minister of Works, Infrastructure and Transportation, Papali'i Niko Lee Hang, extended his sincere appreciation to the Ambassador for his country's generosity and gave his assurance that the equipment will be put to good use.

"I assure you that we will be using these chairs, tables, PA system and piano in the best possible way that we can. And I can also guarantee that we will also take good care of all these assets so they will last ten years or more."

The presentation of the new school equipment ended with dances and the presentation of traditional gifts to the diplomat by the Vailima village representatives.
